The NFHS Foundation has awarded $1,000 grants to 25 states in the NFHS membership that host Student Leadership Conferences in their respective states. An additional $15,500 was granted to states to support costs incurred for sending delegates and representatives to the NFHS Student Leadership Conference taking place in Indianapolis this July.
This past year, the NFHS Foundation has played an integral part in the Illinois Wood Bat Study, led by Anthony Holman of the Illinois High School Association. The Foundation Board granted $25,600 to fund this study which analyzed the relationship between the type of bat used in baseball (non-wood or wood) and the risk of injury to defensive players from batted balls. This study also sought to determine if any performance differences occurred between the two types of bats. Final results of this study are expected to be released this fall.
